We were approached by a client to design a restaurant and take away located in a new mall in Shanghai, China. The unit is located in a busy location in the heart of the city with heavy foot pedestrian so transparency was one of the main concepts we wanted to explore. The restaurants intentions were to sell organic foods so we had the task of making the restaurant feel as natural and organic as possible. This particular unit had heavy pedestrian traffic so it was vital that we designed the layout of this restaurant to allow for efficient flow through the restaurant. Installation of glass along the whole internal walk way and the shop front allow for transparency into the unit and the hanging vegetation gives the restaurant a fresh and clean atmosphere. We have also designed this restaurant to have a patterned glass window between the kitchen and the dining space. This transparency gives the diners confidence in the product they are buying as they can see it being produced.
